Climate change is among the most pressing issues of our time. By understanding and controlling matter at the nanoscale, nanotechnology is helping develop and accelerate technologies and industries that address climate change and benefit society. With that in mind, the White House recently announced the launch of the NNI’s inaugural National Nanotechnology Challenge, Nano4EARTH. This challenge is a call to action to mobilize stakeholders to identify and address barriers to widespread adoption of nanoscale solutions to the climate change crisis.

To provide a venue for this critical discussion, we welcome the new year with the Nano4EARTH kick-off workshop. The workshop will be a forum for the community to share ideas on specific opportunities that can be achieved – especially through multiagency coordination – in a 4-year time frame; to identify barriers to the scale-up, adoption, and dissemination of climate nanotechnologies; to establish metrics to monitor progress; and to build connections across the diverse community.
