OVERVIEW
Introduction
Manufacturing is a critical sector for a country’s economic development and job creation. China is seeking to transform from a large manufacturing economy to a more innovative, more highly value-added one. The key to making that transition is smart manufacturing, which can also be described as Internet of Things (IoT). It connects each link of the value chain through innovative and productive approaches. How can the United States and American companies benefit by participating in China’s process of manufacturing transformation? What are the opportunities and challenges?
Objectives
To explore trade and investment opportunities in the field of smart manufacturing by bringing together government officials, policy-makers, project managers, investors, entrepreneurs and venture capitalists to pursue strategic US-China investment and trade partnerships in smart manufacturing.
Summit Overview
After organizing a highly successful 2015 US-China Smart Manufacturing Summit in October 2015, the US-China Foundation for Exchange & Development (USCFED) committed to repeating that success in 2016. This year, USCFED is organizing together with the U.S. Department of Commerce (USDOC) and the Research Institute of Machinery Industry Economic & Management (RIMIEM) in China to organize the 2016 US-China Smart Manufacturing Summit. It will bring together about 50 private investors, entrepreneurs and venture capitalists in the field of smart manufacturing from China to meet their public and private sector counterparts in the United States. It will provide a unique opportunity for our business communities to engage each other in a series of panels and networking sessions covering major issues and challenges related to pursuing US-China investment and trade opportunities in the field of smart manufacturing, including specific projects. News organizations from the U.S. and China will participate in the forum, in addition to covering it.
Sessions
The complex inter-relationships between the various smart manufacturing topics will be explored in cross-cutting sessions that provide an opportunity for interactive discussion among panel members and participants. The sessions will include short presentations by each of the panelists followed by a moderated discussion among the panelists and a Q&A session with the audience.
Topics covered will include, but are not limited to the following panel discussions:
– Understanding Intellectual Property Protection and Branding in Smart Manufacturing
– Opportunities for Big Data and the Industrial Internet in Smart Manufacturing
