Growing up in Holmdel for many of us was a wonderful experience. Bruce Springsteen had a connection to Holmdel. Bruce and the E Street Band lived in a house in Holmdel in the mid 1970s off Telegraph Hill Road. Before Bruce lived in Holmdel he used to visit Holmdel Pharmacy on Route 520 and Holmdel Road during the early 1970s.
Join us at our HHS 1970s Reunion and we can share stories from the 1970s!

NanoBCA Recommends: Nano4EARTH Roundtable Discussion – Thurs 7/6

Posted on June 20th, 2023 in Uncategorized | No Comments »

The NanoBusiness Commercialization Association (NanoBCA) would like to recommend the following NNI Roundtable Discussion.

Nano4EARTH Roundtable Discussion on Coatings, Lubricants, Membranes, and Other Interface Technologies
Thursday, July 6, 2023

Online and the National Nanotechnology Coordination Office:
470 L’Enfant Plaza SW
Suite 8001
Washington, DC 20024

The Nano4EARTH roundtable discussion on nanotechnology-enabled coatings, lubricants, membranes, and other interface technologies aims to identify fundamental knowledge gaps, needs, and opportunities at the interface of materials, technologies, and industrial processes. These needs could have a near-term impact on energy efficiency, sustainable development, and climate change. The moderated discussion will tackle all aspects of the topic – ranging from exciting R&D opportunities to commercialization challenges – by featuring a small group of experts from different sectors and backgrounds.

This roundtable is a critical part of the Nano4EARTH National Nanotechnology Challenge, which aims to leverage recent investments in understanding and controlling matter at the nanoscale to develop technologies and industries that address climate change. Nano4EARTH focuses on facilitating opportunities for members of the nanotechnology community to convene, collaborate, and share resources. Nano4EARTH also strives to provide mechanisms that support technology development and commercialization of nanotechnology-enabled climate solutions.

The topic of this roundtable was identified at the Nano4EARTH kick-off workshop (summary readout and video archive) as a particularly promising area that could have an impact in a short time frame (four years or less). This roundtable is the first of four.

Invaluable training on the essentials of TSCA

Implementation of the amended Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) is very much a work in progress, and the US EPA’s regulatory actions require continuous monitoring. Staying on top of these changes is critically important, and training on current regulatory requirements is vital.

This course will provide in-depth training on the very latest TSCA regulatory and policy developments, their impact and how to anticipate their requirements, comply with the law and remain commercially competitive.

Richard E. Engler, Ph.D., Director of Chemistry, Bergeson & Campbell, P.C. (B&C®), and Catherine M. Croke, DBA, Director of Product Stewardship and Regulatory Affairs, B&C, will present.

By attending this online training course, you will learn about:

  • the fundamentals of TSCA, including the definitions it uses and the centrality of its chemical substances inventory;
  • the applicability of new exemptions from pre-manufacture notices for new chemical reviews;
  • strategies for successful new chemicals submissions;
  • ongoing compliance obligations;
  • requirements for confidential business information protection; and
  • processes for existing chemicals risk evaluation/risk management.

The National Nanotechnology Coordination Office (NNCO), on behalf of the U.S. Government’s National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI), invites you to participate in a public meeting to discuss the revision of the NNI’s 2011 Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Research Strategy. Individuals, non-governmental organizations, academic and research institutions, and the private sector interested in the responsible development of nanotechnology are encouraged to attend and contribute to creating an updated EHS Research Strategy.

The NNI seeks feedback and perspectives on progress toward the goals set out in the NNI’s 2011 EHS Research Strategy and on remaining research gaps, new challenges, and opportunities. By involving the broadest cross section of stakeholders early in the process, the NNI hopes to prepare a fresh and durable strategic guide that is responsive to the continuing evolution of nanotechnology as an enabling technology.

Visit the EHS Strategy Refresh page for the meeting agenda and additional resources. Space is limited, so we encourage you to register early for in-person attendance.

Additional opportunities to engage with the NNI’s EHS strategy refresh include responding to the Request for Information (RFI) published on April 5, 2023. Comments on the RFI are due on or before 5 p.m. ET June 2, 2023. Information on the 2011 EHS Research Strategy is posted on the NNI website.

TOP TSCA TOPICS WEBINAR: Cumulative Risk, NAMs, Risk Evaluations, CBI, and More!
Wednesday, May 17, 2023
11:00am-12:00pm ET

REGISTER NOW

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics (OPPT) has advanced groundbreaking science policy initiatives in furtherance of implementation of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). As EPA advances New Approach Methodologies (NAM), cumulative risk assessment methodologies, and systematic review procedures, chemical stakeholders must understand directionally how these initiatives are influencing EPA decisions under TSCA Sections 5 and 6. Other consequential rulemakings involving per- and polyfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS) reporting and confidential business information (CBI) protections are equally significant, and all are likely to inspire significant disruption in the regulated community. Join us for an intense one-hour update on these and other issues in a discussion with Dr. Anna B. Lowit, OPPT’s Senior Science Advisor, and Bergeson & Campbell, P.C.’s (B&C®) Director of Chemistry, Dr. Richard E. Engler.

Topics Covered:

  • New Approach Methodologies
  • Systematic Review
  • Cumulative Risk Assessment
  • Update on Section 6 Risk Evaluations
  • The Latest TSCA Rulemakings, Including PFAS Reporting, CBI, and  TSCA Fees

Speakers Include:

Anna B Lowit, Ph.D., Senior Science Advisor, OPPT, advises on a diversity of science policy issues. Dr. Lowit previously served at Senior Science Advisor for EPA’s Office of Pesticide Programs. She is currently co-chair of the Interagency Coordinating Committee on the Validation of Alternative Methods.

Richard E. Engler, Ph.D. is Director of Chemistry with B&C. Dr. Engler is a 17-year veteran of EPA and is one of the most widely recognized experts in the field of green chemistry, having served as senior staff scientist in EPA’s OPPT and leader of EPA’s Green Chemistry Program. He has participated in thousands of TSCA substance reviews at EPA, and pre-notice and post-review meetings with submitters to resolve complex cases.

Lynn L. Bergeson, Managing Partner, B&C, counsels corporations, trade associations, and business consortia on a wide range of issues pertaining to chemical hazard, exposure and risk assessment, risk communication, minimizing legal liability, and evolving regulatory and policy matters pertinent to conventional, biobased, and nanoscale chemicals, particularly with respect to TSCA, the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), and analog global chemical product programs. Ms. Bergeson is Chair of the International Bar Association (IBA) Agriculture and Food Section, is Immediate Past President of the Product Stewardship Society (PSS) and serves on the Executive Committee of the American College of Environmental Lawyers (ACOEL).
